How to use WS FTP
- When WS FTP first opens, the New Connection
wizard helps you connect to an FTP web server. The wizard
provides instructions and examples on each screen. The wizard
also saves the connection, like a favourite, so you can
easily re-connect later. If the wizard is not displayed,
select Connect in the toolbar.

- On the Site Name page, type a name for your website,
such as ‘My Website’. Click Next.

- On the Connection Type page, select FTP as the connection type. Click Next.

- On the Server Address page, type your FTP address ‘ftp.yourdomainname.com’
where yourdomain.com is your domain name. Click Next.

- On the User Name and Password page, type your hosting
Username & Password. Click Next.

- Press FINISH to connect to the server. This wizard
saves the connection, like saving a favourite, so you
can easily re-connect later.

Uploading Files to Your Website or Downloading Files
Once you have connected to a server, you can transfer files in one of three ways:
- Transfer Arrows. Select a file to transfer. Click the arrow that points away from the pane the file is in.
- Drag and Drop. Click on a file and
hold the left mouse button while you drag
the file to where you want to transfer it. Select multiple files by holding down
the Ctrl key while selecting. - Copy and Paste. Right-click on a
file and select Copy. Then, right-click where
you want to transfer the file and select Paste.
The left frame is your local computer file list. Locate the files and/or directories on your local file list.
The right frame is your Web server files list. Locate the public_html directory on your web server file list. Double click to open it.
- NOTE: All files must go in public_html folder. Do NOT place any other files anywhere but here.
- NOTE: Your home page file name MUST be labelled index.htm or index.html. The server will try to find this page to display as your first page.
